Horse & Rider FAQs
How do I prepare myself for my Horse & Rider photoshoot?
I want you to feel and look your best but I recommend wearing what you are most comfortable in! You can wear anything from formal wear, casual sweater and jeans, a sundress, or show clothes. Show off your beautiful personality! However, you need to be comfortable handling your horse in whichever outfit you choose. Also take the weather into consideration.
If we are photographing on the grass high heels are discouraged.
How do I prepare my horse for the photoshoot?
You'll want your horse to look their best. Show quality turnout is highly encouraged as dirt and dust on your horse will appear in photos. Hooves polished, mane and tail brushed, a clean leather halter or bridle make a huge difference. Exercising your horse is HIGHLY recommended and will help keep your horse calm during the photoshoot.
A braided mane will add a formal feel to your photos but is not required.
Can I bring a friend to help with my horse or dog?
Absolutely! I highly recommend bringing anyone who can help pose your horse and get their ears forward for that perfect picture! It is also very helpful to have another set of hands during an outfit change. Choose a friend or family member you are comfortable with.
What if my horse misbehaves during the photoshoot?
The key to a great photoshoot is patience. We will give your horse or dog breaks to walk around or go back to their stall for a few minutes if needed. Lunging or riding your horse will help keep your horse calm and relaxed during the photoshoot. I also like to keep the number of people and level of excitement down during the photoshoot so your horse or dog is not distracted and worried about too much commotion.
Black Background FAQs
How do black background photos work?
We will set up your horse at the end of an aisle or indoor arena and close all doors and turn off all lights inside the barn behind your horse. The settings in my camera will darken the background behind your horse. The rest of it is editing. Sweeping the barn floor and raking the arena dirt drastically cuts down on editing time and creates a beautiful clean look. Keep your horses at home and don't have an indoor or aisle? No problem! We can use an open garage, an overhang, or any spot where your horse is not in direct sunlight.
How should I prepare my horse for a black background session?
Your horse should be turned out as if you are going to a AA horse show. Squeaky clean! Dirt and dust on your horse will appear in your high quality detailed photos. Hooves polished, mane and tail brushed, a clean leather halter or bridle with the reins removed and a dark lead line (which will be edited out) make a huge difference. Exercising your horse is HIGHLY recommended and will help keep your horse calm during the photoshoot.
A braided mane will add a formal feel but is not required. Everyone loves a long flowing mane too!
What should I bring with me for my horse's black background session?
Here is a list of basic recommended items you should bring:
~ A towel for wiping your horse's mouth if need be.
~ Thin dark lead rope or a leather lead with a chain. The chain will not be used on your horse! It is much easier to edit out the chain than a thick lead rope.
~ Hoof Polish
~ Your horse's favorite treats
~ Anything that will get your horse's attention without upsetting them.
I will also have my bag of tricks to help the session go smoothly.
Can you photograph my horse and dog together?
Typically in black backgrounds, the two are actually photographed separate, then edited together. Individual sessions for your horse and dog must be booked. A complimentary image of your horse and dog together will be gifted. Additional horse and dog combined photos can be available for purchase.
Can I bring a friend to the photoshoot?
Absolutely! I highly recommend bringing any one who can help pose your horse and get their ears forward for that perfect picture! It is also very helpful to have another set of hands during an outfit change. Choose a friend or family member you are comfortable with.
